:: Safari bugs (outdated)

logoSince the list bugs is a little bit too long, I decided to move the bugs list from my wishes list to this article. Feel free to comment then I will find the way to reproduce the bug. (Updated: At the same time, Mr. Hyatt is inviting tracking back bug report in his Surfin' Safari blog, that's encouraging!)

    Bugs: (OS: 10.2.6)
  1. Table height rendering (? I'm not sure if it's a bug or not)
  2. Table caption render problem
  3. Logo render problem
  4. Not display Chinese title properly. For example:
    bug05
  5. Wrongly displaying certain Chinese encoding pages. For example:
    bug04
  6. Web caching problem. If you visit the same cgi with the same URL more than 3(or 4?) times, you will see the same page content of first time you visited this page.
"Empty Cache" function or refresh the page can temperarily stop this...
  7. JavaScript problem? Not able to view any satellite map in this page at Taiwanese Central Weather Bureau.
  8. JavaScript problem? Not able to enter valid value in the form fields at JPMorgan Chase's website, in the page Set up profile Personal SSN, you can't enter valid SSN because it jumps abnormally.
  9. Not able to jump to a certain named anchor if the name contains a very long escaped string. See example: ???????????? FAQ
  10. For Chinese text, <i></i>, <b></b> are not effective
    ????? --- should be italic
    ????? --- should be bold
  11. Safari can't animate more than one image tag with the same animating GIF images src in one window!
These are two identical images, but only one of them are animating.
  12. Incompatibility with Yahoo Dictionary (Taiwanese Version) looking up Traditional Chinese
The problem is you can't input Chinese text using Safari.
  13. Occasional loss of characters when pasting a large amount of multi-byte text. (not confirmed on v85)
  14. Forgetting the text encoding in the text area of previous page. For example, in google search, it's possible you get to another site and find it's not what you are looking for, and go back to add more keyword. If your keywords are multi-byte text, you will loss your text encoding and the google give you junk result. Come on.... (updated: check out http://vastheman.paservices.com/safaribug/ for example)
  15. Not rendering Logitech Homepage properly.
  16. Overlapping display of multi-byte words(Fixed)

Is it okay to write here? http://www.cwb.gov.tw/V4/weather/satellite/index.htm Can't view a single satellite map since the first version of Safari, not to mention animation. Must take mozilla in daily work...gee. (孟叡 replied: Added to the list.)

As for the cache control, I found a small trick around it: load the same page in Camino and reload it there, then go back in Safari and refresh there and you will have the new version! I have no idea why or how those are linked, but it always works for me. (I use the debug menu -> open with Camino to open the page there). Note that if you just open it in Camino with the debug menu, it will also just copy the version that was in Safari, not loading the new version; you have to refresh it manually in Camino.

Safari also has problems displaying "streaming" pages, like you have in HTML-chatrooms. These pages with the chat output will just load forever and display any new stuff. Safari refuses to display such a "streamed page". Konqueror too. Omniweb too. Opera, IE, Netscape 4, Mozilla etc. have no problems with those pages. That means, that you can't use Safari in any web chat out there...
