日誌 :: I10N of UCI blogsurvey.

(Original Posted on 2004-07-21)
Via TWBLOG.NET, inertia mentioned that there is a project from school of ICS, UCI doing survey on bloggers. For me, the most exciting thing is that this survey project is deployed by fellow anteaters.

Beside English, these questionnaires also include CJK versions, that makes some of my blogging friends excited.

Actually what I care was mostly the l10n part of the questionnaire. For traditional Chinese version of the questionnaire, it was converted directly from simplified Chinese version. My question was very similar to Issac Mao, a blogger from China. He concerned about the term "博客" and wondered if it can directly represent blogs or bloggers.

Based on similar concern, I helped Norman to revise the traditional Chinese version. I set the translation of blog to be "網誌" based on the "BLOG 教父" Jedi's recommendation, got rid of the tautological parts and corrected some typo. I also use the terminologies that were often used in Taiwan. You might want to call it "Traditional Chinese (Taiwan)" version.

My another concern was that the simplified chinese version is too "simplified", it doesn't tell the readers the rights they are supposed to have, that's why I patched the preface part to the awkward sentences you read.

Thanks, Norman.

Isaac is the god father of blog in China, indeed. He co-founded cnblog.org early in 2002.
